What is a good accredited online university?
Posted by admin | Under Uncategorized Friday Sep 12, 2008A university that is respectable, and maybe has some great fast programs… I heard that University of Phoenix can give you bachelor's in 2.5 years if you speak a foreign language. But it had some bad reviews from students… Please help!
Any online program from a brick and mortar college is going to be your best bet. Since many, many, many state colleges and universities offer online education, distance learning and programs for adult learners, there is really no reason to go the UoP route, which can be incredibly expensive and depending on your area of study not at all useful.
According to the Department of Education, UoP has a graduation rate of 6%, versus the national average of 55%. Graduation rate is something to consider when researching school. As my mom says about colleges, "Easy to get; Hard to get out!" and I suspect the reverse is true as well.
Also, if it takes the standard student 4-6 years to complete a BA/BS from a prestigious school such as Duke or Harvard, does seem logical that a school offering to grant degrees after 2.5 years would be a rewarding educational opportunity?

I don't know about fast programs. In fact, if you're doing this in hopes of improving your career, I'd rather you go to a better university - a respectable uni - and have it take you longer, than go to U of Phoenix and get through quickly.
In fact, if career advancement is part of your goal, I'd have you stay away from any uni that's famous for being online or for-profit. Instead, focus on the schools that are known as "in person" schools, and which also offer online degrees.
So I suggest you look at: U Maryland, Penn State, Drexel, UMass Amherst, Northeastern, Southern New Hampshire University, Tiffin University, Iowa State U, Ball State U, U Nebraska, Thomas Edison State College, SUNY Delhi, SUNY Albany, Fort Hays State U, U Illinois, and the many other quality colleges that offer online degrees. The stars on that list - those with absolutely fabulous names - are U Maryland, Penn State, UMass Amherst, Drexel, Northeastern, U Illinois, Iowa State, and U Nebraska.
Also check your home state's public university system. A lot of them offer online degrees now, and you might get a lower tuition rate for being in-state.

Look up the Western Governors University website:

IT IS ACCREDITED and you can accelerate your learning–you put more time in and you accomplish more! There are several undergrad and post grad programs which will be detailed on the website.
I graduated with a post-baccalaureate degree in elementary education and have started working as a teacher! I had a wonderful mentor who was very helpful and the staff was wonderful! If you call their 800 number, you will find yourself talking with a NON-PUSHY admissions counselor who will be able to give you lots of information. I really can't say enough about it. Plus it is much more reasonable because they charge by six month increment rather than by credit hour. I worked like crazy to get as much done in each six month period so I could save money AND get through the program faster!
No matter what you decide good luck!
