Seeing that everyone has been a little negative towards earning an education online, I want to add a bit of positive sight for distance learning. I am currently halfway done with a Masters degree in Counseling from Capella University. It's actually been a great experience to be able to learn and go to "school" at home, work, library, etc. I can tell you now that I have a four year bach. degree from a public accredited university and I have never experienced teachers that cared and was personable until I attended Capella Univ. I am in my fourth quarter there and my hubby is starting there as a IT major next quarter so he is excited. Alot of people I know personally, co-workers, and colleagues, have gotten degrees from Argosy and Univ. of Phoenix and have gotten great jobs ranging in corporate, to teaching. I have two friends now at Capella and we love it, so that's my experience and going to a brick and mortar university may not be right for you and distance learning is certainly not for everyone.

It takes great discipline and motivation, you have to stay on top of things. I recommend Capella simply because it has great teachers, administration is good at solving problems, and their reputation is really good. If you have questions, I'm at msjaybutler@yahoo.com....
References :
www.capella.edu

Go to a bricks and mortar school that offers some classes on-line. Most of the "on-line" schools are not accredited, which means your degree is worthless. Employers are very aware of these schools and will not hire students from them. Also, the credits will not transfer to a university if you deside to go on with your studies.
I've never done it...but i've heard online classes are easy and convenient. But i've also heard that places like the University of Phoenix who advertise online are not "accredited" schools. There is a government organization who decides which schools meet all the qualifications (qualified professors, curriculum, course design, etc) to be considered a "real" college or university.
Getting a degree from an unaccredited school is less valued in the real world.
References :
I have no problems with obtaining a degree online; however, I would make sure that it is a degree program offered through a traditional brick-and-mortar school. There are several quality programs offered through schools such as Boston College, Indiana State, NYU, etc. that don't carry the stigmata attached to an online only school such as UOP. Do your research and make the best choice for you. Don't let online/offline availability be your only consideration.
References :
look into accredited online colleges. meaning those that actually have a real live school to go to but you're simply choosing to attend from a distant. AIU is a good one. otherwise i'd suggest just taking core type classes online, but doing the bulk of your real studies in an actual classroom. some employeers don't mind online courses so long as they are to further along your studies, and aren't actually the only way in which you attained your studies.
References :
I have taken several courses online (math, corporate finance), but not an entire degree.

It can be convenient, I can go at my own pace, I can still ask questions.

But if you want an entire online degree, please be sure it is from a college that employers will accept. Many online schools are not well thought of by employers.
References :
To be honest, it's unlikely you'd get into a top grad school out of Westwood. Not only is it not regionally accredited, which you do note, but it's also not considered particularly strong, academically.

However, if you do end up with very high GRE/GMAT scores, you may be able to get into a reputable graduate school somewhere. Maybe not the tops in its field, but solid, and reputable. For example, Simmons College in Boston every year accepts a few women into their MBA program who actually lack undergrad degrees; they likely wouldn't have a problem with Westwood, if your GMAT was good (and you were female.)

But you know what? Re: even the top level programs, exceptions to rules are made very occasionally. If you really do rock that GMAT, and if your work history is extremely strong, and you have an interesting story to tell, I'd actually have you contact someone at the very strong programs you're interested in: someone in admissions, for MBA schools, and the professor you'd most like to have as your mentor/advisor, for other masters degrees (those that require the GRE). Talk to them directly. Sell yourself. See what they say. Because I saw a man admitted directly into a PhD program at an elite university without an undergraduate degree of any sort, because he was so promising, and because he had a very unusual background. He's now the foremost scholar in his field. So it can happen. It just doesn't happen very often. Don't count on it. Have a backup plan.
References :
Possibly. IT depends. What was your undergrad major and what type of graduate programs are you looking? Masters, doctorate, business vs. liberal arts graduate programs etc.?
References :
Current MSA student at AACSB accredited University

Look up the Western Governors University website:

www.wgu.edu

IT IS ACCREDITED and you can accelerate your learning--you put more time in and you accomplish more! There are several undergrad and post grad programs which will be detailed on the website.

I graduated with a post-baccalaureate degree in elementary education and have started working as a teacher! I had a wonderful mentor who was very helpful and the staff was wonderful! If you call their 800 number, you will find yourself talking with a NON-PUSHY admissions counselor who will be able to give you lots of information. I really can't say enough about it. Plus it is much more reasonable because they charge by six month increment rather than by credit hour. I worked like crazy to get as much done in each six month period so I could save money AND get through the program faster!

No matter what you decide good luck!
